What to buy in Málaga: the city you don’t expect, between markets, craftsmanship, and local design
When you visit a city, not all memories are captured through photographs alone.
One of the best ways to truly bring a piece of Málaga home is to discover where to shop beyond the usual tourist circuits, among local markets, artisan workshops, independent bookstores, and art galleries.
As you know, one of the things I love most when traveling is hunting for small treasures.
Not just any souvenirs, but objects with a story, with a soul—something that, once I’m back home, makes me say: I found this there, at that exact moment of the journey. And that allows me to carry a piece of that place, that world, with me forever.
If you’re wondering what to buy in Málaga or where to find truly authentic souvenirs, Málaga is, in this sense, a surprisingly rich mine. Alongside its major museums and most famous landmarks, there’s a vibrant network of local markets, vintage shops, special bookstores, artisan studios, and art galleries where you can discover unique pieces—objects with character, local creativity, and stories to tell, often at very reasonable prices.
Below you’ll find my favorite spots, divided by category, so you can choose based on your style and the time you have available.
